What is Professional Coaching?
While similar to other support adults in a student’s life, such as Therapists or Mentors, Certified Coaches fill a unique role. A Coach’s job is to provide the critical guidance and accountability needed for a student to know themselves and realize their full potential. Our Coaches work closely with students to help them deepen their self-awareness, develop important skills, set goals, and achieve results so students can change their own lives.
What makes Coaching different from Mentoring and Coaching?
Here are some ways that a Certified Coach provides support that is different from Mentorship or Therapy.

Definition: Someone who guides you to discover your own answers
Purpose: To help you reconnect with yourself and take action
Support Role: They don’t tell you what to do or what decisions are best, but instead focus on guiding you to define your own decisions and stay accountable to your plan.

Definition: Someone who gives you the best answers and strategies
Purpose: To share their experience so you can reach your goal
Support Role: They don’t expect you to come up with your own answer and often guide you to take the best step according to their personal insight and experience.

Definition: Someone who guides you to see how your feelings, thoughts, choices, and actions affect each other
Purpose: To help you understand yourself and heal wounds.
Support Role: They don’t focus on action steps, but instead guide you to feel and express your emotions to remove any internal tension preventing you from moving forward in your life.

Our coaches are sourced from ICF-certified training programs, the gold standard in coach training. They undergo 65+ hours of rigorous training, live practice, and assessment. Our coaches also work with executives, entrepreneurs, and leaders in companies but volunteer their time to invest in the next generation through EPOG Academy.
